UPS (NYSE:UPS) employees in Malaysia dedicated their time and effort in 2019 towards helping the underprivileged in the community, including the homeless and those with mental health disabilities, contributing over 2,500 volunteer hours and RM41,000 to charities in 2019. Employees’ efforts were especially focused in October during UPS’s Global Volunteer Month where they dedicated their time at the D’home Mental Health Association in Penang and the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) in Kuala Lumpur, logging a total of 922 volunteer hours to the organisations and brightening the lives of beneficiaries.
UPS’s annual Global Volunteer Month is spearheaded by The UPS Foundation, the company’s global philanthropic and corporate citizenship arm. All across the world, UPS employees get together with their friends and family to give back to the communities in which they live and work, and engage in activities such as volunteering at charities, clearing rubbish in the environment, and providing assistance to the homeless in the community.
At the D’home Mental Health Association in Penang which provides help to patients with mental illness, UPS employees flexed their ‘green thumbs’, working on the grounds of the charity to help plant trees and maintain the garden. These areas are especially important for the association, serving a therapeutic role for D’home’s patients. Through The UPS Foundation, UPS Malaysia also provided the organisation with a RM41,000 grant which will go to the association’s ‘Fun Walk and Food Fair Carnival’ charity event to be held in March 2020. UPS volunteers have also pledged their helping hands at the event.
Over in Kuala Lumpur, UPS volunteers also offered their assistance at the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA), cooking up a storm in the charity’s kitchen, preparing a sumptuous Nasi Lemak spread for the people experiencing homelessness around the city’s Pudu district.
Outside of Global Volunteer Month, UPS also runs a program called “Neiour to Neiour”, where its global employees take part in events organised by NGOs and do volunteer work in their communities.
