小型沼气发电工程沼气发电的投资主要包括沼气发酵间、沼气净化系统、沼气发电设备。如不考虑沼液和沼渣后处理总投资可相对减少一半，沼液后处理主要是为了环保，不建沼气工程，也得建污染物（指污水、垃圾、粪液等）处理工程，单一的污染物处理项目投资大，运行费用高。
小型沼气发电工程如果建一座沼气发电工程及后处理系统来处理污水或垃圾，一般 4 ～ 5 年可收回总投资。使用寿命可达 15 ～ 20 年。如果建一座沼气发电工程及后处理系统来处理养殖场粪液，污水厂废水、食品厂废液、农杂物秸秆等，一般 2 ～ 3 年可收回总投资，使用寿命可达 15 年以上，沼气发电的综合成本约 0.1元/kwh ，售价约 0.6元 /kwh 左右，投资 650 万元左右，建一个日产 1 万立方米的沼气发电工程，年发电量约为 780万 /kwh ，发电收入约 460万元，减发电成本约 80 万元（含设备折旧），年纯收380万元，不要 2 年可收回投资。
