MVME5500 is a single board computer from Motorola, here are some of its features and related information:
Processor: It is a MPC7457 processor running at 1GHz, belonging to the MPC7450 series of PowerPC processors, with 512KB of on-chip L2 cache and 2MB of L3 cache, and is also equipped with an Altivec coprocessor for high-performance computing applications.
Memory: PC133 ECC SDRAM at 133MHz, configured as 512MB in two banks, with 512MB on-board, expandable to 1GB with an additional memory mezzanine card (note, however, that the memory mezzanine card cannot be used if a PMC module is inserted in PMC slot 1).
Storage: Has two sets of soldered flash (32MB and 8MB), and 32KB of NVRAM (4KB of which is for user use), battery storage life of 50 years at 55°C, battery capacity life of 5 years at duty cycle, 25°C, and removable battery.
Bus and Interfaces: Features dual independent 64-bit PCI buses and PMC sites with bus speeds up to 66MHz; provides a Gigabit Ethernet interface, an additional 10/100BaseTX Ethernet interface, and two serial ports; includes a 64-bit PCI expansion mezzanine connector for up to four additional PMCs; and its Universe II VME interface and PMCspan connector are compatible with a dedicated PCI expansion mezzanine connector. Its Universe II VME interface and PMCspan connector are isolated from the PMC site on the dedicated 33MHz PCI bus segment, allowing both PMC sites to run at 66MHz. I/O is compatible with the MVME51xx family and also supports Processor PMC (PRPMC).
Performance Features: Provides not only better processor performance, but also a balanced mix of processor, memory, dual independent local buses, and I/O subsystems. The powerful Marvell system controller supports a 133MHz host bus and a 133MHz SDRAM memory bus to match the high-speed processor. To match system I/O with superior processor performance, it offers dual 64-bit, 33/66MHz PCI buses, each with a PMC site, supporting cards running at 33 or 66MHz.
Application Areas: The MVME5500 series is designed to meet the needs of OEMs in defense, aerospace, industrial automation, transportation, medical imaging and more. Customers can take advantage of its enhanced performance features while maintaining backward compatibility with their existing VMEbus infrastructure when upgrading technology for their applications.
Backward Compatibility: Continuing SmartEC's direction from the MVME5100 series, this provides customers with a migration path from the MVME2300, MVME2400, MVME2600, MVME2700 and MVME5100 boards.
Transition Modules: such as the MVME761 Transition Module, which provides industry-standard connector access to an IEEE1284 parallel port, 10BaseT or 100BaseT port via an RJ-45 connector, an asynchronous serial port configured as an EIA-574 DTE via two DB-9 connectors, and synchronous/asynchronous serial port access via two HD-26 connectors. These serial ports provide industry standard connector access through two DB-9 connectors for asynchronous serial ports configured for EIA-574 DTE and two HD-26 connectors for synchronous/asynchronous serial ports. These serial ports are labeled Serial 3 and Serial 4 on the MVME761 faceplate, and can be individually configured by the user as EIA-232, DCE, or DTE with the installation of a SmartEC Serial Interface Module (SIM).The P2 Adapter Board provides the interface signals for the MVME761 Transition Module, and there are two separate P2 Adapter Boards for the 3-row and 5-row backplanes, with the 3-row P2 Adapter Board being an 8-bit SCB.
