The Series 90-70 is a family of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) for GE's Intelligent Platform, of which the RX3i is a part of its PACSystems family.

Upgrading from the Series 90-70 to the RX3i offers certain advantages. For example, GE's PAC3i series offers superior performance and a smaller installation size. For some users of Series 90-70 products, there may be a shortage of spare parts because the series has been discontinued and some modules are no longer available for service. The upgrade solution, such as the use of conversion racks, can be upgraded from the original 90-70 I/O to RX3i I/O, which is much easier to install in the field, can greatly reduce the control system rewiring construction time, minimize the time of stopping the car and the workload of on-site engineering, and minimize the economic losses caused by stopping the car for renovation. At the same time, the upgraded control system supports the Profinet protocol, which has stronger real-time performance and higher network throughput, and its transmission rate is much higher than that of the earlier Genius protocol.
